□ The delegation of Statistics Korea (hereinafter KOSTAT) lead by Director General Hyunae Kim attended the 29th Population Census Conference that took place in Danang, Vietman from the 11th to the 13th in July 2018. □ The Conference was first convened in 1971 by the East West Center. Since the establishment of ANCSDAAP* in 1991, the secretary of ANCSDAAP and a host country have been co-organizing the conference. * Association of National Census and Statistics Directors of America, Asia and the Pacific ○ KOSTAT has been performing the role of the secretary since 2013, and thereby has been a co-organizer of the Conference. □ In this year’s conference, as many as 50 experts and high-level officials in statistics from nearly 20 countries participated to discuss ‘innovative approaches for the quality enhancement in 2020 census.’ ○ The Conference was comprised of 9 sessions covering related topics, such as the planning of the 2020 round of the census, the internet survey and the register-based census, and data collection and analysis. □ KOSTAT intended for the conference to deliver concrete outcomes that can build on the plans for the upcoming census. ○ In particular, KOSTAT has reaffirmed its commitment and leadership for the advancement of the population census in Asia and the Pacific by effectively administering the regional expectations and diverse inquiries from international communities. |
