1. Deaths and crude death rates - The number of deaths was 266,257 persons in 2013, down 0.4 percent from 2012. The crude death rate marked 526.6 persons per 100,000 population in 2013, down 0.8 percent from 2012. 2. Death by sex and age - As for people in their forties or less and people in their sixties and seventies, the number of deaths showed a year-on-year drop. As for people in their fifties and people in their eighties or more, the number of deaths showed a year-on-year rise. 3. Leading causes of death - The death rates of the three leading causes of death were malignant neoplasms (149.0 persons), cerebrovascular diseases (50.3 persons) and heart diseases (50.2 persons). 4. Infant mortality - The number of infant deaths was 1,305 persons in 2013, which fell by 7.1 percent from 2012. The infant mortality rate (the number of infant deaths per 1,000 live births) marked 3.0 persons in 2013, which grew by 3.1 percent from 2012. 5. Perinatal mortality - The number of perinatal deaths was 1,429 persons in 2013. The perinatal mortality rate stood at 3.3 persons per 1,000 live births plus fetal deaths. 6. Maternal mortality - The number of maternal deaths (the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy) was 50 persons in 2013, which rose by 4.2 percent from 2012. The maternal mortality ratio marked 11.5 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2013, which grew by 15.6 percent from 2012. 7. Alcohol-induced death - The alcohol-induced death rate stood at 8.9 persons per 100,000 population, which declined by 2.0 percent from 2012. ※ For more information, refer to the attached file. |
