- The total private education expenditures of elementary, middle and high school students marked 21 trillion won in 2019, which rose by 7.8% from 2018. The private education participation rate stood at 74.8% in 2019, up 1.9%p from 2018. The weekly participation hours recorded 6.5 hours per student in 2019, which grew by 0.3 hour from 2018. - The average monthly private education expenditures per student marked 321 thousand won in 2019, rising by 10.4% from 2018. The average monthly private education expenditures per participation student marked 429 thousand won in 2019, rising by 7.5% from 2018. - As for the average monthly private education expenditures per high school student, the first grade students marked the highest figure of 376 thousand won. As for the average monthly private education expenditures per high school participation student, the third grade students marked the highest figure of 629 thousand won. - As for the average monthly private education expenditures, the share of students spending 700 thousand won or more showed the highest increase of 2.2%p. - The average monthly private education expenditures on general subjects amounted to 235 thousand won per student in 2019, up 10.6% from 2018. The average monthly private education expenditures on general subjects amounted to 415 thousand won per participation student in 2019, up 4.2% from 2018. - As for private education of general subjects by purpose, 'Study in advance' and 'Child care, etc.' showed an increase. As for private education of artistic and physical skills, 'Child care, etc.' showed an increase. - The higher household income level, the higher education expenditures and participation rate. - The after-school program participation rate stood at 48.4%.
