□ The non-wage workers increased by 28 thousand persons (0.4%) from August 2015.
○ The share of non-wage workers dropped by 0.5%p to 25.6 percent in August 2017.
○ As for non-wage workers by industry, workers in 'Restaurants and hotels', 'Mining and manufacturing' and 'Business,
personal and public services' rose by 39 thousand persons, 19 thousand persons and 51 thousand persons,
□ The average operation (service) period of non-wage workers remained the same as August 2015. The shares of
non-wage workers joining a national pension and an industrial accident insurance recorded a rise.
○ The average operation (service) period of non-wage workers marked 13 years and 11 months, remaining the same as
August 2015. The share of non-wage workers joining a national pension rose by 3.0%p to 73.3 percent. The share
of non-wage workers joining an industrial accident insurance rose by 7.5%p to 52.8 percent.
□ As for the motivation to start a business for self-employed persons who started their business within the recent two
years, 71.0 percent said that it was because they wanted to operate their own establishment.
