- In 2018, there were 298,820 deaths, which recorded the highest figure after the beginning of statistical production in 1983.
- 3 leading causes of death were cancer, heart diseases and pneumonia. These 3 causes of death occupied 45.0% of the total deaths.
- The death rate for Alzheimer's disease and pneumonia showed a year-on-year increase. Whereas, the death rate for transport accidents
and diabetes mellitus showed a year-on-year decrease.
- Seoul recorded the lowest figure of the age-standardized death rate at 283.3 deaths per 100,000 standard population, which was
followed by Gyeonggi (306.8).
