To identify the size, composition and distribution of household assets, liabilities and income, and households' microscopic financial soundness and to use them as basic data for the government's financial and fiscal policies
To comprehensively grasp the status of economic and social standard of living, change, duration, change factors, etc. and use them for social and welfare policies and research
It covers all households throughout the nation. However, the followings are excluded when selecting panel households at first.
Non-married students who do not live in their households' primary residence
Spouses who do not live in their households' primary residence for a job
Those under 15 years old
Inmates of social institutions
Households consisting of non-consanguineous members
Households of foreigners
Survey Unit and Target Population Size
One-person households and families sharing a living who are related by blood, marriage or adoption.
Family members who do not live in their households' primary residence temporarily for a job, study, mandatory military service are included.
Those who live together but who have no kinship ties (e.g. housekeepers, drivers, lodgers) are excluded.

Survey period: March 30 ~ April 18, 2016
Household composition, Assets and Liabilities: March 31, 2016
Income, Expenditure and Repayment of principal and interest: Jan. 1 ~ Dec. 31, 2015 (for 1 year)
2006: Carried out the first survey of Household Wealth on a 5-year basis
2010: Carried out the first Survey of Household Finances
A joint survey among Statistics Korea (household assets), the Financial Supervisory Service (household credit) and the Bank of Korea (household panel survey)
2011: Carried out the second Survey of Household Finances
2012: Changed the survey title into the Survey of Household Finances and Living Conditions and carried out the first Survey of Household Finances and Living Conditions
Sample revision and addition of survey items on household living conditions
2015: Adopted a rotating panel design
2016: Carried out the fifth Survey of Household Finances and Living Conditions
