Living quarters refer to all the places where people reside. Living quarters should be separated structurally and should be an independent housing unit. Living quarters are classified into housing units and living quarters other than housing units.
○ Housing units refer to houses built for household residence, which should satisfy conditions as a housing unit. That is, housing units should be permanent or semi-permanent structures, have one room and one kitchen or more, have an independent exit and be units for possession or trade. Housing units can be classified into detached dwellings, apartments, row houses, apartment units in a house, and houses in a commercial building.
- Detached dwellings: Detached dwellings are classified into 'general detached dwelling' constructed for one household's residence, 'detached dwelling for multiple households' constructed for many households' residence, and 'detached dwelling for both residence and commerce'.
- Apartments: A 5-story or more permanent building that is built for many households to live in. Structurally one household can maintain its independent residence in each apartment.
- Row houses: A 4-story or below permanent building that is built for many households to live in. Their floor space should exceed 200 pyeong. Or they should obtain permission as row houses at the time of construction.
- Apartment units in a private house: A 4-story or below permanent building that is built for many households to live in. Their floor space should amount to 200 pyeong or less. Or they should obtain permission as apartment units in a private house at the time of construction.
- Dwelling units in a building not intended for human residence: Sectional units which are built for commerce but satisfy conditions as a housing unit where people can reside.
○ Living quarters other than housing units refer to residential space which doesn't satisfy the conditions of housing units. They include 1) officetels, 2) hotels, inns and other lodging houses, 3) exclusive social facilities 4) board-framed, vinyl houses and dugouts and 5) others (temporary residential structures).
