      Purpose To provide basic data required for the establishment of agricultural policies, such as to plan for grain supply, improve dietary life, establish production goals and carry out research on food problems

      History
      • 1962: The first survey by the Grain Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on the basis of the results of the 1960 Population and Housing Census (categorized the whole nation into 30 classes, 426 farming households and 294 non-farming households)
      • 1969: Used the results of the 1966 Population and Housing Census (1140 farming households and 660 non-farming households among 60 sample zones nationwide)
      • 1973: Farming households → 2500 sample farming households for economic survey on farming household, non-farming households → 1,200 households in 60 sample zones on the basis of the 1970 Population and Housing Census
      • 1977: Farming households → 3375 farming households by redesigning samples of economic survey on farming households
      • 1978: Non-farming households → 1812 households by redesigning samples on the basis of data from the 1975 Population and Housing Census
      • 1982: Non-farming households → 1760 households by redesigning samples using data from the 1980 Population and Housing Census and 1980 Agricultural Census
      • 1983: Farming households → 2000 households by redesigning samples of economic survey on farming households
      • 1984: Sample numbers reduced to 624 samples of non-farming households and 400 samples of farming households according to execution of survey on consumption in non-household area (restaurants, hospitals, social welfare facilities)
      • 1988: Farming household → 620 households by redesigning samples of economic survey on farming households → discontinued survey on consumption in 602 non-household areas (restaurants, hospitals, social welfare facilities) by redesigning samples using data from the 1985 Population and Housing Census -1993: Farming household → 628 households by redesigning samples of economic survey on farming households
      • Jan. 1997: Approved for the production of statistics
      • 1997: Non-farming household → 625 households in 125 zones by redesigning samples using data from the 1995 Population and Housing Census
        • For large consumption businesses and department stores, convenient stores and supermarkets, etc. to freely sell packaged rice with the amendment of Grain Management Act, restaurants, hospitals and social welfare facilities, etc. were redesigned on the basis of annual sales by using data from the Census on Basic Characteristics of Establishments carried out in 1995 for complete survey on quantities higher than the specified and inventory amount survey with samples for quantities less than the specified.
      • Jul. 1998: Changed production organizations (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry → National Statistical Office)
      • Sep. 2001: Changed production periodicity (Month → year)
      • 2002: 11th sample revision by using the results from the 2000 Population and Housing Census and 2000 Agricultural Census
      • 2008: 12th sample revision by using the results from the 2005 Population and Housing Census and the 2005 Agricultural Census
