To provide basic data required for carrying out agricultural policies related to land resource utilization and stable demand & supply plans for agricultural products, a basis for agricultural production

Annual (data collected 5 times over the year based on crop cultivation period: March, May, July, Sep, Nov)

Agricultural area (paddy field, upland field) in enumeration districts, which is selected as a sample, and cultivated crops

Designated as designated statistics on May 29, 1967.
Samples were designed in 1973 and an existing administrative survey was replaced by a sample survey in 1974.
Samples were redesigned to reflect the changes in agricultural basis in 1985. The sample was used from 1987.
Samples were redesigned by 'Si' and 'Gun' in 1995. The samples were used from 1996.
As the "Basic Agricultural Survey" was transferred to the Statistics Korea on May 18, 1999, the Agricultural Area Survey was approved as designated statistics.
Samples were redesigned so as to produce statistics on the major production areas ('Si' and 'Gun') for key crops in 2005. The samples were used from 2006.
The sample size was reduced from approx. 39 thousand to approx. 26 thousand in 2008. The survey unit was changed into m2.
The Crop Cultivation Area Survey was separated from the Crop Production Survey on Jan 1, 2010, and then combined with the Agricultural Area Survey, resulting in the title change to the Agricultural Area Survey.
A remote research method was used for the Agricultural Area Survey from 2012.
2016: Changed the sample of the Agricultural Area Survey through the RS (Remote Sensing) and GIS-based '2014 ~ 2015 Agricultural Area Survey and Sample Redesign Project for the Agricultural Area Survey'
2021: Established the electronic survey system by using tablets
