- In 2020, there were 304,948 deaths, which recorded the highest figure after the first-time statistical production in 1983.
- Top 3 causes of death were cancer, heart diseases and pneumonia. These 3 causes of death occupied 44.9% of the total deaths.
- The death rates of sepsis and Alzheimer's disease showed a year-on-year increase. Whereas, the death rates of respiratory tuberculosis
and chronic lower respiratory diseases showed a year-on-year decrease.
- Seoul recorded the lowest age-standardized death rate at 260.8 deaths per 100,000 standard population, which was followed by Sejong
(274.8 deaths).
