- There were 260.6 thousand live births in 2021, which fell by 11.8 thousand (-4.3%) from 2020.
- The fertility rate of mothers aged 34 or less showed a year-on-year decrease. Whereas, the fertility rate of mothers aged 35 or more
showed a year-on-year increase.
- The average age of mothers giving birth to a child was 33.4 years in 2021, up 0.2 year from 2020.
- Compared to 2020, the live births of the first child and the second child dropped by 6 thousand (-3.9%) and 4 thousand (-4.5%),
respectively.
- The total fertility rate of Sejong recorded the highest figure of 1.28 children per woman, which was followed by Jeonnam (1.02). In the
meantime, the total fertility rate of Seoul recorded the lowest figure of 0.63 child per woman, which was followed by Busan (0.73).
