Birth Statistics in 2023

- There were 230 thousand live births in 2023, which fell by 19.2 thousand (-7.7%) from 2022. - The fertility rate of mothers aged 44 or less showed a year-on-year decrease. Whereas, the fertility rate of mothers aged 45 or more remained at the same level. - The average age of mothers giving birth to a child was 33.6 years in 2023, up 0.1 year from 2022. - Compared to 2022, the live births of the first child fell by 6.6 thousand (-4.6%). The live births of the second child fell by 9.6 thousand (-11.4%). - The total fertility rate of Jeonnam and Sejong recorded the highest figure of 0.97 children per woman, respectively. In the meantime, the total fertility rate of Seoul recorded the lowest figure of 0.55 children per woman, which was followed by Busan (0.66 children per woman). ※ For more information, refer to the attached file.
