- In 2023, there were 352,511 deaths, falling by 5.5% from 2022. The crude death rate stood at 689.2 deaths in 2023, dropping by 5.3% from 2022.
- Top 3 causes of death were cancer, heart diseases and pneumonia. These 3 causes of death occupied 41.9% of the total deaths.
- The death rate of intentional self-harm grew by 8.5% from 2022. The death rate of dementia rose by 0.8% from 2022.
- Seoul showed the lowest age-standardized death rate at 256.8 deaths and per 100,000 standard population, which was followed by Sejong (277.4 deaths).
