- The total private education expenditures of elementary, middle and high school students recorded 23.4 trillion won in 2021, which rose by 21.0% from 2020. The private education participation rate stood at 75.5% in 2021, up 8.4%p from 2020. The weekly participation hours marked 6.7 hours per student in 2021, which grew by 1.5 hours from 2020. - The average monthly private education expenditures per student recorded 367 thousand won in 2021, rising by 21.5% from 2020. The average monthly private education expenditures per participation student recorded 485 thousand won in 2021, rising by 8.0% from 2020. - As for the average monthly private education expenditures of the total students by grade, 1st grade students in high school recorded the highest figure of 445 thousand won. As for the average monthly private education expenditures of the participation students by grade, 1st grade students in high school recorded the highest figure of 655 thousand won. - As for the average monthly private education expenditures, the share of students spending 700 thousand won or more went up by 3.0%p from 2020. - The average monthly private education expenditures on general subjects amounted to 281 thousand won per student in 2021, rising by 17.6% from 2020. The average monthly private education expenditures on general subjects amounted to 460 thousand won per participation student in 2021, rising by 1.4% from 2020. - As for the private education of general subjects by purpose, 'Makeup for classes' and 'Study in advance' showed a year-on-year increase. As for the private education of artistic and physical skills, 'Hobbies, culture and development of talent' and 'To make friends' showed a year-on-year increase. - The higher household income level, the higher education expenditures and the participation rate. - The after-school program participation rate stood at 28.9%.
