Gini's coefficient

Definition
  • It is an index indicating income inequality of the entire household (population), ranging from 0 to 1. If the index is closer to 1, it shows higher inequality.
  • It stands between 0 and 1. "0" means absolute equality; "1" means absolute inequality.
Commentary
  • It measures the area called inequality area between the Lorenz curve and the hypothetical line of absolute equality, expressed as a percentage of the maximum area under the line (0.5).
