Definition	It is the number of deaths of infants under one year old (under 365 days) in a given year divided by the number of the total births in the same year. It is often expressed as per 1,000 live births.
Commentary	The infant mortality rate decreases as the level of health increases. Therefore, this rate is often used as an indicator of the level of health in a country.
