Life table

Definition
  • A table that displays the attrition process of certain cohorts as they get older, under the assumption that the current age-specific death rates remain constant in the future
Commentary
  • Shows remaining average years of survivorship of a certain age group, age-specific death rates, probabilities of surviving from a specific age group to next age group.
  • Cause-elimination life-table is a life table constructed by eliminating a particular cause of death. It provides death rates and death probabilities by making an assumption that a particular cause of death is eliminated through prevention or eradication.
  • Complete Life-table is constructed in single years of age.
  • Abridged Life-table is spaced at 5 year intervals.
