Base period

Definition
  • It could be one week, one month or the average of a group of years.
  • In Korea, it is customary to revise the base period every 5 years and the base period for price and industrial production index is set to years (Anno Domini) in multiples of 5.
Commentary
  • The period of time for which data used as the base of an index number have been collected. This period is frequently specified in particular years.
