Chronic disease

Definition
  • A chronic disease is one that lasts for a long time, usually at least six months or one year and contrasts with acute diseases (a social survey of local governments etc).
  • The four main types of noncommunicable diseases are cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes.
Commentary
  • Refers to noncommunicable diseases which are not passed from person to person and have a long duration of illness and a slow progression.
