Definition	Crude birth rate = Total number of births during a given year / Mid-year population during the same year × 1,000 - A basic index showing the level of births of a population. Different from the general fertility rate which expresses the ratio of the number of births occurring during a given year to the female population of 15-19 (fertile women).
Commentary	The rate of the number of births occurring among the population during a given year, per 1,000 mid-year population during the same year.
