Discouraged worker

Definition
  • Among the economically inactive population, persons who are willing and able to work, but are currently unemployed and have not attempted to find employment in the last four weeks due to labor market conditions but have worked within a year.
Commentary
  • Labor market conditions
    ①No suitable available jobs(college majors, experiences, level of remuneration, labor conditions and surrounding environment)
    ②Sought for employment before the survey reference period but was not able to find employment
    ③Limited qualifications(lack of education and technical skills, a perceived notion that employers think the applicant is either too young or old for the job position
    It is significant in the sense that they are potential labor force who could enter into future labor market from the economically inactive population.
